K7 is known for its tolerance to rust and coffee berry disease, and has been widely used in Kenya and Tanzania. K7 was released in Kenya in 1936 by Scott Agricultural Laboratories. The Majority of Copala coffee plantations contain a mixture of about 20% K7 and 80% SL28. Currently 2 plantations of 3.5 ha and 5 ha, contain this variety in conjunction with SL28

It is associated with extremely high cup quality when the plants are managed well at high altitude, and is known for its delicate floral, jasmine, and peach-like aromas.
