Our Story
3rd Generation Family-Owned Farm
At Copala, our story is deeply rooted in family tradition and a love of farming. It all began when Hendrik Viviers purchased a farm near Ventersdorp, North West, South Africa, which produced a variety of crops and livestock such as maize, cattle, sunflower, soya, and sorghum. Today, the farm continues to thrive and is still commercially producing crops and livestock. The Viviers family's passion for farming has been passed down for three generations and remains just as strong today.

Copala Estate Farm
Building on the success of their first farm, the Viviers family acquired a second property in the mineral-rich Copperbelt region of Zambia, next to the Kafue River. This region is commonly referred to as 'Copala' or 'Kopala', inspired by the local word for the copper mineral that is mined in the area. Today, Copala produces a variety of specialty crops including coffee, macadamia nuts, and fresh water tilapia. The farm boasts two coffee plantations spanning 3.5 and 8 hectares, comprising over 10,000 individual trees at an altitude of 1500 meters. With the ideal climate and conditions, Copala is committed to producing exceptional small batch coffee that can be enjoyed by coffee lovers worldwide.

Sustainability
At Copala, we are dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and working towards a more beautiful and sustainable world. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our use of clean solar power as our sole energy source. We also prioritize reducing our carbon footprint by maintaining and harvesting our coffee plantations by hand, rather than relying on fossil fuels. Through creating equal job opportunities for people of all genders within our local community, we foster sustainable economic and social environments. We also provide clean drinking water and housing for our farm employees, demonstrating our commitment to social responsibility.
